NEW YORK - Mayor-elect Bill de Blasio has appointed Anthony Shorris as his first deputy mayor of New York City.

Shorris will be the second highest ranking official at City Hall come Jan. 1. He'll be de Blasio's right-hand man, charged with managing day-to-day operations of city government.

Shorris is a former executive director of the Port Authority and once served as commissioner of the city's Department of Finance. The New York native graduated from Harvard and Princeton universities, and currently works as senior vice president, vice dean and chief of staff at the NYU Langone Medical Center.

De Blasio said he's confident in his extraordinary experience and abilities to support the core agenda of his administration.

Dominic Wiliams was also appointed as chief of staff to the future first deputy mayor, and Emma Wolfe was selected as director of intergovernmental affairs.
