Mayor nominates David Yassky as new taxi chief

BROOKLYN - Former Brooklyn Councilman David Yassky may soon head the New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg nominated Yassky for the position Friday morning, citing his efforts to add fuel-efficient taxis to the city's fleet. Last November, Yassky ran for city comptroller, but lost the race.

The City Council must now review the nomination. If approved, the mayor will appoint Yassky to serve a seven-year term.
