BROOKLYN - Mayor Bill de Blasio held a town hall meeting Thursday night in East New York to address concerns surrounding his controversial rezoning plan for the area.

The mayor called it the most progressive rezoning plan in the country, with about 3,000 new, affordable apartments being built over the next 10 years. Many of the units will be available in the next two years, and nearly half are for the lowest-income families.

The plan also calls for money to be put into schools, parks and job development.

Some residents said the supposedly affordable apartments still won't actually be affordable for many families. De Blasio said he understands that sentiment, and added that he plans on working to make housing even more affordable in the future.
