BAY RIDGE - The candidates in the race for New York mayor spent much of Monday campaigning on the eve of Election Day.

Republican candidate Joe Lhota met with volunteers and supporters in Bay Ridge before heading to Manhattan, while Democrat Bill de Blasio worked his way through many of the same neighborhoods on his way to the Bronx.

Voters say public safety and education are among their top priorities as they head to the polls.

Polls open Tuesday at 6 a.m. and will close at 9 p.m.
