BROOKLYN - Tennis players at McCarren Park in Williamsburg will soon be able to play on newly renovated courts.

In May, the McCarren Tennis Association raised money to resurface one of the seven courts. After hearing about their efforts, the United States Tennis Association notified the group that it will be granted $50,000 through the "Fresh Courts" program, which seeks to invest in developing communities through the renovation of existing tennis facilities.

Six of the courts at McCarren Park will be resurfaced. The seventh court will be used as a training facility for children.

In total, 17 tennis courts in three cities were chosen for the renovation project. Work is expected to begin in September and be completed by early fall.
