Medical examiner rules death of 4-year-old BK girl a homicide

BEDFORD-STUYVESANT - The medical examiner has ruled that the cause of death for a 4-year-old girl found dead in her Bed-Stuy apartment last month is a homicide.

The medical examiner's office says Marchella Pierce died of child abuse syndrome. According to the medical examiner, Pierce sustained acute drug poisoning, blunt impact injuries, malnutrition and dehydration.

Police have charged her mother with assault and endangering the welfare of a child.  Those charges could likely be upgraded.
