Meeting planned to help curb Coney Island violence

CONEY ISLAND - A city councilman is holding a town hall meeting tonight to discuss a plan to reduce violent activity in Coney Island.

Councilman Domnenic Recchia, as well as community members, say they are disturbed by the spate of shootings in the area. Earlier this month, the neighborhood spoke out and marched against all of the violence.

A mother of seven was fatally shot in Coney Island two months ago. In July, two teens were hit by stray bullets. Most recently, police say a 24-year-old was shot and killed in the area only a few weeks ago.

The meeting will be held at United Community Baptist Church on Mermaid Avenue at 6:30 p.m. Recchia says all are invited.
