Meeting seeks feedback on proposed streetcar connector

A meeting was held Wednesday night to find out how Williamsburg residents felt about a proposed Brooklyn-Queens streetcar connector.

BROOKLYN - A meeting was held Wednesday night to find out how Williamsburg residents felt about a proposed Brooklyn-Queens streetcar connector.

The proposed project, also known as the BQX, calls for creating a streetcar line from Sunset Park through Brooklyn and into Astoria, Queens.

The BQX will run 16 miles near the waterfront and cost about $2.5 billion.

Some residents are embracing the idea, while others question the cost and its feasibility. The Economic Development Corporation says it is aware of the concerns and has been traveling to different areas throughout the borough and Queens to see how commuters feel about the plans.

City officials say they are going to take some of the feedback from the meeting and incorporate it into the proposal.

Construction is expected to begin by 2020.
