BROOKLYN - Veterans and students at I.S. 259 came together to design a Memorial Day Art Showcase to honor all of the men and women who have died in the wars following Sept. 11.

One of the veterans involved, Sheridan Dean, says he was overjoyed by the work he created with the students, adding that it's fantastic to see young people express themselves through art.

In addition to the artwork is a wall where the students wrote over 6,000 names of service personnel who died in the Afghanistan and Iraq wars.

Students say the experience has taught them to appreciate their freedoms and the people who sacrifice their lives for the good of the country.
