Witnesses say they saw a man thrown into the air after being struck while crossing the busy road.

BROOKLYN - Police have charged a suspect in connection with a hit-and-run that seriously hurt a 68-year-old man.

Michael Spalla, 47, is accused of driving without a license and leaving the scene of an accident Monday.

The crash happened at Ocean Parkway and Avenue O in Midwood. Witnesses say they saw a man thrown into the air after being struck while crossing the busy road.

The victim is recovering at Lutheran Hospital.
