GRAVESEND - The Midwood Ambulance Service celebrated both EMS Week and its 60th anniversary Thursday with an old-fashioned barbecue.

The family-owned service launched in the spring of 1956.

It's first ambulance looked like an old station wagon.

Over the past six decades, the fleet has grown large enough to serve the entire city, with about 300 employees in Gravesend alone.
