MIDWOOD - After a community meeting about the recent hate crime in Midwood, many neighborhood residents are hopeful an investigation will soon yield arrests.

Last Friday, several vehicles were burned and vandalized, and anti-Jewish hate messages were scrawled across cars and benches on Ocean Parkway near Avenue I .

Police have assured Midwood residents that they're stepping up patrols in the area and putting all of their resources into the investigation.

Also on the lookout to safeguard the area is the Shomrim patrol, a volunteer security group comprised of mostly Jewish Brooklyn residents.
