MIDWOOD - Some Midwood residents say they are rallying together to petition the Washington Cemetery's plan to buy out houses near the outskirts of its property and expand the cemetery.

The city's largest Jewish cemetery on Bay Parkway has run out of room and has been reportedly eyeing some homes in the hopes to build more plots.

Local residents say they are petitioning against the expansion after some neighbors were approached by the cemetery.

Councilman David Greenfield (D-44th District) says he and the rest of the City Council would have to approve any expansion. Greenfield says he's against the expansion.
