Milk does the body good, but the wallet bad for BK residents

SHEEPSHEAD BAY - The Department of Agriculture reports a 25 cents price increase for milk effective Sunday.

The increase raised the maximum price a retailer can charge from $2.69 to $2.94. A spokesperson from the New York Department of Agriculture and Markets says the increase is due uneven supply and demand. They say diary farmers have been struggling to keep up with demands for the past six months.Brooklyn residents say they fear the price increase for milk will affect other diary products as well. However, agricultural officials say even with this increase, the price farmers receive for their milk will still be below five-year averages.
