Mom of 2 boys hurt in E. New York fire arrested

EAST NEW YORK - Police say the mother of two young brothers who were injured in a Brooklyn fire was arrested Monday.

According to authorities, 5-year-old Renaldo Perez, Jr. and 2-year-old Ezekiel Perez were home alone when a fire tore through their East New York apartment Friday. The boys were rushed to the hospital with burns.

Their mother, Milagros Perez, was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child. The Administration for Children's Services has already taken Milagros Perez's eldest child, an 8-year-old girl, into its custody. ACS officials say the organization is investigating whether or not to take the boys, as well.

Fire officials say the cause of the fire does not appear suspicious.
