BROOKLYN - Two hundred MTA station agents turned in their vests and badges Friday, joining the thousands of New Yorkers who are out of work.

The transportation agency says keeping the agents would cost about $49,000 daily, worsening the $800-million budget gap it?s struggling to close.

The layoffs had been scheduled for May, but were blocked by a Manhattan judge. The MTA board voted to ax the agents anyway, and also to close 44 token booths.
