A mother and daughter are homeless after a fire destroyed their apartment on Saint Marks Avenue. Firefighters arrived at the three-story brownstone around 7 a.m.

BROOKLYN - A mother and daughter are homeless after a fire destroyed their apartment on Saint Marks Avenue.

Firefighters arrived at the three-story brownstone around 7 a.m.

Investigators say the fire started within the walls.

The fire chief says the extreme heat was debilitating for firefighters carrying heavy equipment, and two firefighters sustained minor injuries.

The victims say they will be staying with family.
