DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN - The mother of Nixzmary Brown, the Bed-Stuy girl who was allegedly killed by her parents, asked for new counsel during a pretrial hearing Tuesday.
Nixzaliz Santiago told the judge in a downtown Brooklyn courtroom her attorney is disrespectful to her and spends too much time talking to the media. The judge is expected to rule on the matter and whether taped confessions of Santiago and her husband Cesar Rodriguez should be thrown out. Defense attorneys for the couple argued earlier the confessions were forced and officers did not read Miranda rights.
The death of 7-year-old Nixzmary caused an overhaul of the Administration for Children?s Services, which was overseeing the case. Nixzmary had allegedly missed many school days and authorities say she suffered severe abuse.
