EAST NEW YORK - An East New York mother of three says she's struggling to feed her children two weeks after she called NYCHA to fix her broken refrigerator.

Elizabeth Rivera, who lives in NYCHA's Pink Houses, says she has complained several times to management over the past two weeks. She says she came home on July 14 to find the old fridge had stopped working and left $150 worth of food spoiled.

She claims the complex did not attempt to remove the fridge from her home and that she was left to dispose of it by herself.

She says she works 13-hour shifts and has set aside time on her days off for workers to bring in a replacement, but the delivery has never arrived during those times.

Rivera says the situation has not only been an inconvenience, it has also depleted her funds. She says she spent $300 in the last two weeks.

In the meantime, Rivera says her brother lent her a mini-fridge.

NYCHA released a statement addressing the issue, saying that the housing authority has made several unsuccessful attempts to deliver the new appliance and hopes to resolve the issue quickly.
