Mother's confession played in BK court in Nixzmary Brown case

DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN - The account of a Bed-Stuy girl?s beating death was heard in Brooklyn court Wednesday via the mother?s taped confession.

The videotape was made the same day 7-year-old Nixzmary Brown died in January. On the tape, Nixzaliz Santiago blames her husband Cesar Rodriguez. Santiago says she told her husband not to hit her children, but she claims Rodriguez told her to butt out because he helps take care of them. Santiago also says she found the girl dead hours after Rodriguez dunked Nixzmary in water and beat her.

Santiago?s attorney maintains his client also suffered abuse from Rodriguez. Prosecutors paint a different picture, saying the woman did little to help her child and contributed to Nixzmary?s death. A judge denied Santiago?s request for a new attorney yesterday. The case is in pretrial motions.
