MTA bus, several cars catch fire in Bay Ridge

BAY RIDGE - A MTA bus along with several other cars caught fire last night in Bay Ridge.

Fire officials say the bus caught fire coming off the 92nd Street exit near the Verrazano Bridge and spread to at least a half dozen cars.

An MTA employee says the bus apparently ran over and dragged a mattress for a bit before igniting a fire near the back engine area of the bus.

The passengers were able to get off the bus before the flames escalated. No injuries were reported. The MTA is investigating the incident.
