BROOKLYN - An astronaut with deep Brooklyn ties says he had the borough on his mind while carrying out missions on space shuttle Atlantis.

NASA astronaut Garrett Reisman was honored today by Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz. "I'm in awe of Garrett's contributions, his career," Markowitz says.

Reisman, an engineer, says he gave Markowitz a pin that orbited the earth 186 times and traveled nearly five million miles.
