GOWANUS - Volunteers celebrated Earth Day by cleaning up the Gowanus Canal.

Employees from National Grid joined the Gowanus Canal Conservancy to help clean and beautify the area. Volunteers sifted compost, pulled weeds and planted flowers along the canal.

"The primary thing we want our employees to take away from the Earth Day activities is a newfound, rekindled respect for the environment," says National Grid's Rudolph Wynter.
