BROOKLYN - A Sunset Park business is one of the few remaining blank cassette tape manufacturers on the East Coast.

Domenick Salvatore, who owns National Recording Supplies, says he's been manufacturing cassettes since before he was a teenager.

He began with eight-track cartridges.

Although the cassette tape may seem like ancient technology to some, Salvatore says that there's been a resurgence in demand recently.

"Cassettes will always be my passion," he says. "How long it's going to last, we don't know, but I'm enjoying the time we're having now."

In the 1990s, Salvatore says his shop sold between 5 and 6 million cassettes a year. Now, the number is about 500,000.

Customers mostly include independent record labels and collectors.
