Navy veteran claims he's homeless due to bed bugs

(09/24/10) BROOKLYN - A Navy veteran claims he?s homeless because bed bugs have taken over his Brooklyn apartment.

Jerry Cruz says he is spending nights in his car because he can?t get any sleep in his own bed and his landlord refuses to help. News 12 Brooklyn checked out his landlord on the Department of Housing Preservation and Development's website and found the owner has a number of open violations, some for bed bugs.

Cruz's neighbors say they have scars from bed bug bites and the Department of Housing Preservation and Development says if the landlord does not correct the violations after 30 days, neighbors can take him to court.
