NEW YORK - New poll numbers show that Democrat Bill de Blasio has a sizeable lead over Republican Joe Lhota in the race for New York City mayor.

According to the most recent NBC 4 New York/Wall Street Journal/Marist poll, 65 percent of voters are backing de Blasio, 22 percent are throwing support to Lhota and the rest are undecided. The poll of 930 registered voters, with 632 likely to vote, was conducted Sunday and Monday.

De Blasio officially nabbed the Democratic nomination after former candidate Bill Thompson bowed out on Monday, avoiding a possible runoff election in the primaries. City Council Speaker Christine Quinn has also given her full support to former rival de Blasio.

De Blasio and Lhota differ on key issues, including the controversial stop-and-frisk police tactic, which Lhota supports and de Blasio wants done away with.

The two will go head-to-head in the general election on Nov. 5.
