Neighborhood divided over bike lane in Prospect Park West

BROOKLYN - Residents who live near Prospect Park West say they are divided over a bike lane design in the area and both sides are sticking to their beliefs.

Earlier this year, the Department of Transportation removed a lane of traffic and created a two-way bike lane. A parking lane was also created as a barrier to the bike path.

Opposers of the re-design say it is an eyesore for the neighborhood and creates a hazard for pedestrians. However, cyclists say the new design makes the roadway much safer and slows drivers down.

Both sides are not backing down and more than 2,500 people have submitted their opinions to an online survey conducted by Councilman Brad Lander (D-District 39). Now, they?re waiting to hear results.
