CANARSIE - Police arrested a man yesterday after they say he admitted to beating his stepdaughter to death with a hammer in Canarsie. Neighbors consoled the victim's mother after her daughter, 19-year-old Lakeshia Seymour, was allegedly bludgeoned by her stepfather, 53-year-old Jean Simon. Police say the murder happened on the front porch of the family's home on East 102nd Street. Sources say Simon purchased a hammer at a local store, returned to his home and proceeded to hit Seymour until she died. Police say Simon then fled in his car, but was apprehended after he crashed on the Jackie Robinson Parkway. Nearby residents say the family lived on the block for years, but always kept to themselves. Simon has been charged with first-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon. The murder charge carries a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. NYPD: Brooklyn man admits to murdering stepdaughter
