BROOKLYN - Brooklyn Councilman David Greenfield has proposed new legislation that would protect children from being exposed to pornography in public libraries.

Currently it is legal for anyone over 18 years old to view pornographic material in a public library.  Officials say it is protected under the First Amendment.

However, after several parents complained that their children were exposed to it at the library, Greenfield says he had to take action.

Greenfield says the new bill would make it illegal for an adult to view pornography within view of a child in any public library.

If approved, the bill would become law within six months to a year.
