New eco-friendly playground opens at P.S. 65 in Cypress Hills

CYPRESS HILLS - A brand new eco-friendly playground opened today at a Cypress Hills school.

Students at P.S. 65 started their day by running and climbing on the new equipment.

The New York City Department of Environmental Protection says this is part of the new generation of playgrounds. Not only is it a place for kids, it also helps fight pollution of the waterways by controlling stormwater.

The Trust for Public Land says this is only the second multipurpose playground of its kind in the country. The plan is to open 40 green playgrounds in the city over the next four years.

The Trust for Public Land also unveiled another green playground at J.H.S. 218 in East New York.
