New passport requirements set back BK jet setters

BOROUGH PARK - Many people are planning warm getaways as the temperatures drop in Brooklyn, but they may first need to check with government travel standards.Beginning next week, people traveling to the Caribbean, Mexico and Canada will be required to have a valid passport. Previously, a form of identification and a birth certificate were sufficient to gain access to those countries outside of the U.S. The rule change has enhanced business at passport companies across Brooklyn. Officials warn travelers to check their passport expiration date well before their departure date. The new passport rules only apply to air travel. Drivers and cruise passengers will be required to follow the new rules starting early next year.
