BROOKLYN - The new chancellor of the city's public school system hit the ground running in Brooklyn during his first day on the job.
Dennis Walcott held a town hall meeting in Sheepshead Bay, just hours after the state education commissioner announced he would be taking over the position.
Walcott was met with applause from parents after discussing student achievement, finances, and the city's educational goals and priorities. He also answered tough questions about cuts and layoffs.
After wrapping up the meeting, Walcott headed to Manhattan where he sat down with a parent advisory council.
