PARK SLOPE - A new study is revealing fallacies with the B61 bus route and recommending solutions to improve the experience of riders across the borough. City Councilman Brad Lander (D-39th District) and Rep. Nydia Velazquez (D-12th District) conducted a survey over the summer, working with volunteers to collect data on 700 buses. The report shows that B61 buses, which service Red Hook, Park Slope, Windsor Terrace and the downtown area, were up to 20 minutes late or refused to stop due to overcrowding. "More than half the buses at rush hour, at peak hours on the B61 aren't coming on time," Lander says. "They come late, they're bunched up." The study suggests that the MTA should add countdown clocks to inform riders when the next bus is expected, put more buses out during peak hours and keep lights green for buses at key intersections. MTA officials say they are reviewing the report and will work with local politicians to address the concerns.MTA to split B61 bus route to combat crowding
