BROOKLYN - It's National Nutrition Month, and experts are encouraging everyone to steer clear of fad diets. 

Dietitians at New York Methodist Hospital in Park Slope held a special event Wednesday to explain the right way to slim down. 

They say that if you're trying to lose a few pounds in time for summer, it's all about eating the right foods and controlling your portions.

Another helpful tip is to always stick to the outside aisles when grocery shopping because that's where you'll find fresh, whole foods.
