BROOKLYN - On the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, known as the busiest travel day of the year, New Yorkers are hitting the road, rails and air.

According to AAA, 38.4 million Americans will travel 50 or more miles, which is an increase of more than 1.4 percent from last year. Eighty-six percent of travelers are expected to go by car, while only 6 percent will fly.

Experts advise holiday travelers to allow an extra 90 minutes at airports and to use public transportation in order to avoid gridlock.
