News 12 Brooklyn follows a mail carrier during the deep freeze

Wilfredo DeJesus, 29, says he makes about 750 stops in Sunset Park. (1/8/14)

SUNSET PARK - News 12 Brooklyn followed a mail carrier around Sunset Park to see how he deals with the elements during the deep freeze.

Wilfredo DeJesus, 29, starts off his mornings sorting through thousands of letters at the Bush Terminal Mail Station on Third Avenue. Then he bundles up in layers so he can spend the next few hours outside delivering the mail on his journey through Sunset Park. Wilfredo makes about 750 stops.

He says that on very cold days his fingers get numb and sometimes he just needs to stop for a quick break to warm up, but his huge ever-present smile and positive personality keeps him going each and every day.
