NEW YORK - News 12's Magdalena Doris spoke with New York City mayoral candidate Bill de Blasio on Thursday.

Commenting on a recent court ruling regarding changes to stop-and-frisk, de Blasio says police officers need to work hand-in-hand in the community to help eliminate crime. He adds that there must be a mutual respect between law enforcement and the people they're protecting.

The Democratic hopeful says he also wants to focus on education and affordable housing.

According to a Quinnipiac University poll, de Blasio leads opponent Joe Lhota by 39 points.

Election Day is Nov. 5.
