(09/27/10) BROOKLYN - Newtown Creek has been designated a superfund site by the Environmental Protection Agency.

It is the second body of water in Brooklyn to be designated for a multimillion-dollar makeover. EPA officials say they found a wide range of toxin contaminates that warrant immediate action.

The first step, they say, is to find who or what is responsible for the pollution.

The first site in Brooklyn to be designated for a makeover was the Gowanus Canal.
