NEWARK - (AP) - A prosecutor says the efforts of twonorthern New Jersey men may seem unsophisticated, but he says thatdoesn't make them any less dangerous.

He says they intended to commit acts of violence againstAmericans.

The two -- who allegedly tried to join a terrorist group inSomalia -- appeared in court today for a brief hearing.

Mohamed Alessa and Carlos Amonte were arrested Saturday night atNew York's Kennedy Airport. Authorities say they were preparing tofly to Egypt, and then to Somalia.

Investigators say the men wanted to get training from jihadistswho were affiliated with al-Qaida, and then launch attacks againstfellow Americans. Authorities say they watched terrorist videosonline and bought military-style pants -- but they didn't have anyknown connections to terrorist groups.
