BROOKLYN - With the Jewish holiday of Passover just days away, one non-profit is offering help to those who need it most.

The Metropolitan Council on Jewish Poverty is donating thousands of pounds of Kosher foods - apples, potatoes, carrots and more - to Jewish families who can't afford food for the holiday.

The special Kosher foods that are eaten on the holiday can often be expensive.

The Met Council says there are nearly 500,000 poor observant Jews in the city. Representatives say the people getting helped are mostly employed, but the high cost of living, especially in Brooklyn, makes it tough to make ends meet.

Passover begins Friday evening.
