NY Aquarium facing major funding cuts from city

BROOKLYN - If Mayor Michael Bloomberg's proposed budget cuts are passed, the New York Aquarium could lose more than half of its operating support from the city.

That would mean layoffs, shortened hours and program cuts for the aquarium. Mayor Bloomberg says the cuts are necessary to compensate for large cuts in state and federal aid.

The aquarium is asking visitors and supporters to sign a petition online or through text messages in an attempt to save its programs.
