WHITE PLAINS - A newspaper in Westchester County is defending a story published over the weekend, listing the names and addresses of handgun permit holders in two counties.

The Journal News posted a story over the weekend, showing maps of all gun owners in Westchester and Rockland counties. Comments on the paper's website criticized the article and accused the paper of putting permit holders in danger.

The paper's president says all the information was obtained legally through a Freedom of Information Act request and if New Yorkers have the right to own guns, they also have a right to access public information.
