NEW YORK - (AP) - New York City schoolchildren may see fewerchoices at the lunch line next fall.

Under a proposal by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, schools that offerthree hot lunch options would offer just two, and schools thatoffer two hot lunch options would offer one.

The change would save $23.7 million a year.

The Department of Education says students will not notice anymajor changes. The schools serve cold sandwiches in addition to thehot lunch choices, and more than 500 have salad bars.

But City Council member Gale Brewer says the change would not begood news.

Brewer says that for many kids, school lunch may be their onlyhot meal of the day, and if they have more choices they are morelikely to eat it.
