NYPD: Apple product thefts jump 40 percent

BROOKLYN - The NYPD says thefts of Apple products have made a drastic increase, exceeding that of overall city crime.

Officials say that from Jan. 1 through this past Sunday, cases in which Apple products were stolen went up by 40 percent compared to the same time period last year. The total number of index crimes during the same time period is up by just 4 percent.

Police are urging everyone to be aware of their surrounding and protect their electronic devices.
