BROOKLYN - The NYPD is boosting security on all major transit services around New York City as a precaution following twin bombings at the Boston Marathon.

Officers have set up bag checks and are stopping some commuters at subway stations throughout the borough, including the busy Barclays Center stop.

Officials are also keeping a close watch on all major landmarks, but stress that there are no specific threats to the city. All New Yorkers are urged to keep their eyes open for any problems and report any suspicious activity.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg released a statement saying in part that, "1,000 members of the NYPD are assigned to counter-terrorism duties and they, along with the entire NYPD and the investments we have made in counter-terrorism infrastructure, are being fully mobilized to protect our city."
