NEW YORK - NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton discussed a variety of topics, including the latest crime trends and new technology being used by the department, during a news conference Wednesday.

According to NYPD statistics, overall crime citywide is down compared to the same time last year. New technology such as the ShotSpotter program has helped police respond to crimes, especially in the Bronx and Brooklyn.

Out of 55 incidents, only 12 received 911 calls. Bratton says the ShotSpotter program has helped police respond to crimes faster and also helped them recover evidence and surveillance video.

Bratton and other top NYPD officials say that they are trying to receive funding for 1,000 more NYPD officers. He also vehemently denied any tensions with Mayor Bill de Blasio's office over negotiations for the 2016 NYPD budget.
