BROOKLYN - A dolphin seen swimming in a Coney Island creek has died.
The NYPD confirms the death after it initially said that the dolphin safely made its way out of the shallow waterway during high tide Thursday night.
Chopper 12 had flown overhead as police, marine experts and neighbors gathered near Cropsey Avenue and Bay 54th Street to see the dolphin and attempt to help it.

Police say that while it's not that uncommon to see a dolphin in the ocean near Coney Island, it's the first time that one was spotted in the creek.
