MANHATTAN - A New York City police officer whose act of kindness turned him into an instant celebrity online was honored at City Hall Monday.

Officer Lawrence Deprimo was awarded a proclamation by Council Speaker Christine Quinn after being photographed while giving a barefooted homeless man brand new boots in Times Square.

Deprimo has remained modest about his gift and wasn't aware that a photo was being taken. He says he hopes he's inspired people to go out and help others.
