NYPD officer injured by DWI driver in Brooklyn

BROOKLYN - (AP) - A New York City police officer suffered two broken legs when he was hit by a suspected drunken driver just moments after stopping another DWI suspect in Brooklyn.

Police say the officer, whose name had not yet been released, was listed in stable condition at Bellevue Hospital Sunday.

Police say the officer was walking toward the stopped car on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway at about 4:30 a.m. when another car swerved to miss the patrol car, collided with a taxi, and spun into the officer, breaking his legs.

Police say both drivers failed Breathalyzer tests and were later charged with DWI.
