NYPD officer missing off Long Island coast

BROOKLYN - A search is under way for a 21-year veteran of the NYPD who went missing off the Long Island coast this afternoon.

The Coast Guard says recruitment officer Patrick Luca, of Long Island, was on a kayaking trip with his 5-year-old son when he disappeared in the water.

Luca's son was safely pulled out of the Smithtown Bay after being spotted by a private fishing boat. He is said to be OK.
